Smoke Detectors
If there is a fire in the middle of the night, who will wake you up?
Smoke detectors
save hundreds of lives every year and every year thousand of lives are
lost to house fires. The
US Consumer Product
Safety Commission says the cheapest and best way to protect your
family from fires is to install and maintain your fire alarm system.
Check the batteries monthly and replace your smoke detectors every ten
years.
Current National Electric Code standards require a smoke detector in every bedroom, basement, garage, and on each level of your home. These smoke detectors should be looped together in a series so if one sounds, the rest sound as well. This is extremely important if there is a fire in the basement and you are asleep upstairs in your bedroom. Check to see if you have looped smoke detectors by pressing the test botton on one and seeing if the detectors in the other rooms sound as well. If they do not, call us to check them out.
Carbon Monoxide detectors are not required in every new home in Georgia. These detect the silient ordorless gas that is emitted by gas fueled furnances, hot water heaters, and ovens. Many homes do not have these detectors but there are easy to install and can be purchased for less than $50 at a local hardware store.
